Hyundai Motor Company has revealed the design for the IONIQ 6, the second model in the IONIQ all-electric-vehicle line-up brand. The IONIQ 6 world premiere will take place in July, when Hyundai will reveal the full specifications, including the electrified streamliner’s powertrain and advanced technologies.

Based on Hyundai’s Prophecy EV Concept, IONIQ 6 is an Electrified Streamliner whose  designers say it embodies Emotional Efficiency, an aerodynamic design principle characterised by clean, simple lines.

IONIQ 6 has a drag coefficient of 0.21 courtesy of a low nose, active air flaps at the front, wheel gap reducers, and optional slim digital side mirrors2. Further features include an elliptical wing-inspired spoiler with winglet, slight boat-tail structure, and separation traps on both sides of the rear bumper. The undercarriage also features optimized deflectors and reduced wheel-arch gap to ensure low drag.

IONIQ 6 integrates over 700 Parametric Pixels in its headlamps, rear combination lamps, front lower sensors, air vent garnishes and center console indicator. The rear wing’s Parametric Pixel High-Mounted Stop Lamp (HMSL) is activated when the brakes are applied. The IONIQ 6 also boasts the newly designed Hyundai ‘H’ badge.

The vehicle’s control unit is modular in nature, with a centrally located 12-inch full-touch infotainment display and 12-inch digital cluster, and an a bridge-type center console providing in-car storage.   There are transparent accents on the crash pad garnish, door map pocket and console lower cover, and no buttons on the front doors.

The interior is lit by Dual Colour Ambient Lighting, featuring a spectrum of 64 colors and six dual color themes. 4-dot Interactive Pixel Lights are embedded within the steering wheel (Photo: Hyundai)

Recycled pigment paint from end-of-life tires forms part of the cladding and bamboo charcoal pigment paint has been added to the body. The interior is also trimmed in sustainable materials and colors. Depending on the trim level, these include eco-process leather (seats), recycled PET fabric (seats), bio TPO skin (dashboard), bio PET fabric (headliner), bio paint derived from vegetable oils (doors), and recycled fishing net carpet – the latter is a first for the IONIQ brand.
