NEWS... BUT NOT AS YOU KNOW IT

Firefighters desperately removed gas cylinders from a burning recycling plant after it went up in flames last night.

Crews were worried the heat would cause them to explode, making the roaring blaze even worse with dangerous blasts.

The factory in Hayes, west London, had 400 tonnes of waste in it when the fire erupted, providing plenty of fuel for the spreading inferno.

It got so big that 15 engines and 100 firefighters had to be sent out after the first reports came in at 11.40pm.

Two of the brigade’s 32-metre turntable ladders were used to blast water on the flames.

They were used outside the building as the fire made it too difficult and dangerous to get inside.

The area where the plant is located is quite industrial, so the building was mostly surrounded by other factories and warehouses.

But locals still heard sirens and some flocked to social media to check neighbours were safe. There have been no reports of injuries.

Firefighters worked through the night, eventually bringing it under control just after 3am.

Station commander Dean Wilkinson praised his team for working ‘swiftly’.

It is not clear what started the fire but an investigation has been launched.
